Dog of the Week
“So. Mack is a Great Dane. My husband and I both like BIG dogs. I had a Rottie and he had a Husky and both had to be put down. We agreed the next one we’d get is a Great Dane. My husband started researching breeders and found one in SE IA and brought him home a few months before my daughter was born. Our Husky (still with us at the time) was NOT a fan. Lol. Our Husky was 13 at the time and she didn’t want to deal with a puppy and his energy.
Mack has been good with both kids since day 1. Our daughter seems a little more tolerant of him. Now both just mimic my husband and I and yell at him to lay down or calm down. Hahah.
Mack is afraid of his own shadow. He rarely barks like a real dog and instead does this thing that we call a “moof”. Like trying to bark through closed lips. Haha. A half-ass, lazy bark, essentially.
Mack is very skittish and it is kind of funny. People in the neighborhood think he’s a horse, which is odd, considering he is kind of small for his breed. He is currently 103 pounds, but I wanted a Dane with a giant head and he’s kinda little.
Mack has NO idea how big he is and that he is all leg. He sleeps on a blanket on the floor on my side of the bed and when he changes positions, he throws his weight against the bed, the wall, or my nightstand and literally shakes the house.
Downstairs, he legit has a tempurpedic doggy bed (cost $150) that takes up half the room. But he is so dumb and awkward that sometimes he only has his back paws on it instead of utilizing the whole thing. 🙄🙄
Another thing he does is do figure 8s around our backyard. If you fake lunge at him to try and play, he spins in the tightest circle and is CRAZY. Not sure how a dog of that size can spin in a circle with a 2 ft circumference. Lol.
Lastly, he seems to be afraid of our neighbor’s AC unit when it kicks on in the summer. He is such a lover and a cuddler, and he’s a good student (does amazing at obedience school), but he’s just dumb and crazy at home.
Next breed? Mastiff. 😉♥️”
